Child Circumcision Procedure

Child circumcision is a procedure performed on boys during their childhood to remove the foreskin from the penis. Parents may choose circumcision for cultural, religious, personal or medical reasons. When performed by trained medical professionals, the procedure is safe and children typically recover well with proper aftercare.

Our innovative approaches create original solutions to our clients’ most complex domestic & multi juristictional deals and disputes. By thinking on behalf of our clients every day, we anticipate what they want.

Please note that circumcision for children older than 4 months is only available at our Preston clinic.

What Is Child Circumcision?

Child circumcision is a surgical procedure that removes the foreskin covering the head of the penis.

While circumcision is often performed during infancy, it may also be performed later in childhood. In some cases parents choose circumcision for family or cultural reasons, while in others it may be recommended to treat foreskin-related medical conditions.

How the Procedure Works

1
Consultation and Assessment
The doctor examines the child and discusses the procedure with the parents, explaining the benefits, risks and recovery process.
2
Anaesthetic
Depending on the child’s age and circumstances, appropriate anaesthesia is used to minimise discomfort during the procedure.
3
Circumcision Procedure
The foreskin is carefully removed using a safe surgical technique. The procedure itself is relatively quick.

After the procedure, the child is monitored briefly before being able to return home.

When Is Circumcision Recommended for Children?

Circumcision for children may be recommended when certain foreskin conditions occur.

Common reasons may include:

phimosis (tight foreskin that cannot retract)
recurrent infections of the foreskin or glans
balanitis (inflammation of the head of the penis)
paraphimosis (foreskin trapped behind the glans)
hygiene difficulties due to foreskin problems

Circumcision may also be chosen for cultural, religious or personal reasons.

Benefits of Circumcision for Children

Circumcision may provide several medical benefits.

These may include:

prevention of foreskin infections
reduced risk of recurrent balanitis
treatment for phimosis
improved hygiene

For some families, circumcision is also an important cultural or religious practice.

Recovery and Aftercare

Children usually recover well after circumcision.

Parents will receive clear aftercare instructions which may include:

keeping the area clean
applying recommended ointments
avoiding certain activities during healing
monitoring the area for signs of infection

Mild swelling or discomfort is common during the first few days. Most children recover within one to two weeks.
