ShangRing Circumcision

ShangRing Circumcision Method

A modern circumcision technique designed to simplify the procedure and support predictable healing.

What Is the ShangRing Method?

The ShangRing is a medical device used during circumcision procedures. It uses two specially designed rings that secure the foreskin during removal, allowing the procedure to be performed in a controlled and predictable way. This technique has been widely used internationally and is commonly recommended for older children, teenagers and adults.

What Is the ShangRing Device Exactly??

The ShangRing is a circumcision device consisting of two plastic rings.

During the procedure:

one ring is placed under the foreskin
a second ring locks over the outer surface
the foreskin is secured between the two rings

This stabilises the tissue and allows the foreskin to be removed safely while helping control bleeding during the procedure.

The device remains in place during the early stages of healing.

Before the Procedure

Before the circumcision appointment, the doctor will examine the patient and discuss the available circumcision techniques.

Patients will receive instructions about preparation for the procedure, which may include:

following any medical instructions provided before the appointment
wearing comfortable clothing
arranging time to rest after the procedure if needed

The most appropriate circumcision method will be confirmed during the consultation.

When Is the ShangRing Method Used?

The ShangRing method is most commonly used for:

older children
teenagers
adult circumcision procedures

This technique is generally not used for newborns or very young infants.

During consultation, the doctor will determine whether the ShangRing method is the most suitable option based on age, anatomy and medical considerations.

How the Procedure Works

1
Consultation and Assessment
The doctor performs an examination and confirms the suitability of the ShangRing method.
2
Anaesthetic
A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area to ensure the procedure is performed comfortably.
3
Device Placement
The ShangRing device is positioned around the foreskin using the two interlocking rings.
4
Foreskin Removal
The foreskin is removed while the device holds the tissue securely in place.
5
Post-Procedure Review
The patient remains in the clinic briefly for observation before returning home.

Recovery and Aftercare

After the procedure, the ShangRing device remains in place while the area begins to heal.

Patients may experience mild swelling or discomfort during the early stages of healing.

General recovery guidance includes:

resting for the first one or two days after the procedure
keeping the area clean and dry while the ring is in place
avoiding unnecessary pressure on the area

Patients are usually advised not to shower or bathe on the first day, and to keep the area clean and dry until the ring falls off or is removed.

Once the ring has been removed, the wound continues healing over the following weeks. The outer ring is removed after 7-10 days and inner ring falls off in 48 hours.

How much does it cost?

The price of circumcision can vary widely depending on the clinic and the patient. Mainly, factors for the cost of circumcision include the following:

  1. The age of the patient (infant, older child, adult men)
  2. Location of clinic

A deposit of $100 is required for confirmation, which is adjustable to the total cost of the procedure that has to be paid on the day of the procedure.
