Penile Frenuloplasty

Frenuloplasty

A minor surgical procedure used to treat a short frenulum and improve comfort and function.

What Is Frenuloplasty Exactly?

Frenuloplasty is a procedure that treats frenulum breve, a condition where the band of tissue beneath the penis is too tight or short. This condition can cause discomfort during erections or sexual activity and may lead to tearing or bleeding.

What Is the Frenulum?

The frenulum is a small band of tissue located on the underside of the penis that connects the foreskin to the glans (head of the penis).

In most men the frenulum stretches normally and allows the foreskin to move freely. However, in some cases the frenulum may be shorter than usual, restricting movement of the foreskin.

This condition is known as frenulum breve.

What Is Frenulum Breve?

Frenulum breve occurs when the frenulum is too tight or short. This can prevent the foreskin from moving comfortably during erections or sexual activity.

Symptoms may include:

pain during erections
discomfort during sexual activity
tearing or bleeding of the frenulum
difficulty retracting the foreskin fully

In some cases the condition can also contribute to foreskin tightness.

When Is Frenuloplasty Recommended?

Frenuloplasty may be recommended when:

the frenulum causes pain during erections
the frenulum repeatedly tears or bleeds
sexual activity becomes uncomfortable
a short frenulum restricts foreskin movement

In some cases frenuloplasty may be recommended instead of circumcision when the problem is limited to the frenulum.

How the Procedure Works

Penile Frenuloplasty surgical process for penile correction.
1
Consultation and Assessment
The doctor examines the frenulum and confirms whether frenuloplasty is the most suitable treatment. The procedure is explained and any questions can be discussed before treatment begins.
2
Anaesthetic
A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area so the procedure can be performed comfortably.
3
Frenulum Release
A small incision is made in the frenulum to release the tight band of tissue. The area is then carefully repaired with sutures to release the frenulum and allow normal movement.
4
Post-Procedure Review
After the procedure, the patient is monitored briefly and given aftercare instructions before returning home.

Benefits of Frenuloplasty

Frenuloplasty can provide several benefits.

These may include:

improved movement of the foreskin
reduced discomfort during erections
reduced risk of tearing or bleeding
improved comfort during sexual activity
hygiene difficulties due to foreskin problems

The procedure aims to restore normal function while preserving the foreskin.

Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery after frenuloplasty is usually straightforward.

Patients may experience mild swelling or discomfort for a short period after the procedure.

Typical recovery guidance includes:

keeping the area clean
avoiding sexual activity during healing
following the doctor’s aftercare instructions

Most patients recover within three to four weeks.
